Listen in here as our own Erica Busillo Adams leads a live spotlight session with Darlene Slaughter, Chief People Officer at the March of Dimes. The dialogue is timely and extremely dynamic, touching on all of the following items among many other core topics of interest:
1. What is March of Dimes’ mission and vision?
2. As Chief People Officer at March of Dimes, how do you, specifically, support the organization’s mission? How do you work to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into all levels of the organization?
3. How has March of Dimes evolved over the past 80 years?
4. Our community members might not know that the U.S. is among the most dangerous developed nations in the world for childbirth and that Black women are 3 times more likely than White women to die from pregnancy-related causes. Tell us about March of Dimes’ current focus on health and birth equity for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) moms and babies. How does March of Dimes advocate to dismantle systemic racism in healthcare at the federal and state level?
5. COVID-19–which is disproportionately impacting Black and Brown communities–has brought the health inequities that exist in the U.S. (as a result of systemic racism) into sharp relief. How has the March of Dimes responded to the needs of BIPOC moms and babies during the pandemic / how is the March of Dimes supporting the health of BIPOC moms and babies during this moment of global crisis?
6. Are there any upcoming campaigns or events you would like to share with us?
7. What 3 pieces of advice would you give to a young professional looking to build their career in HR and DEI?
